Upland Water Storage Overview

A Superior Solution for Parksville's Water Supply

The City of Parksville and areas within the Regional District of Nanaimo, currently rely on both groundwater and surface water. However, the present well field aquifer is under stress, with groundwater levels having dropped many meters within the past 25 years, indicating that extraction at current rates is unsustainable. This decline in groundwater levels also increases risks to human health from contaminating land uses in groundwater recharge areas. The Englishman River is flowing at unacceptable low levels and is probably contaminated. The water being distributed could be unsafe for human consumption and should be investigated.
